Features

Your child will achieve his or her full potential in the following areas:

  • Phonics: associating letter symbols, letter names and correlating sounds
  • Tracing uppercase letters: as he or she practices stroke order and recognizing the sound of each letter
  • Fine motor control skills

Uppercase ABC's is an easy-to-use, interactive app that will engage your child as he or she practices stroke order or recognizing the sounds of each letter. By completing an activity, your child will be eligible to receive a Kumon Certificate of Achievement.

  • Three Tracing Modes
  • Three Stages of Tracing
  • Letter Sound Activity

Three Tracing Modes

  • Alphabetical:

This mode allows your child to trace letters in alphabetical order.

  • Random:

This mode presents the letters in random order.

  • Kumon:

This mode follows the Kumon method and arranges letters by complexity. Unlike conventional alphabet apps, the Kumon order is designed to be intuitive for a child. Therefore, your child will begin with letters that feature two straight strokes, such as L and T, and then multiple straight strokes, like H and I, and then progress to letters with diagonal lines, curving lines, and so on.

Three Stages of Tracing

  • Stage 1:

Inside the frame of the letter, your child will begin with Stroke 1, tracing from the circle to the star along the dotted line. Your child will then trace Stroke 2 in the same manner, and so on, until the letter is completed.

  • Stage 2:

The dotted lines disappear but the letter frame, stroke numbers, dots and stars remain as guidelines. Your child will again begin with Stroke 1 and progress until the letter is completed.

  • Stage 3:

All guidelines disappear but the letter frame remains. When your child has successfully completed tracing the letter, a word and illustration will appear and reinforce the letter sound. Your child can even play with the movable illustration. Then, it's time to move on to the next letter.

Letter Sound Activity

  • The goal of this activity is for your child to practice identifying the sounds of the letters with their written symbols. There will be three letter choices and your child will touch the letter that matches the sound. If your child chooses the incorrect letter, the letter sound will repeat until he or she has chosen the correct letter. Once your child has chosen the letter that matches the sound, the sound of the letter and the name of the letter will be repeated to reinforce the association before the activity automatically moves to the next round.
