Teaneck, New Jersey – January 15, 2007
Although still a new kid on the block in the world of children's
books, Kumon Publishing is making a big splash – with more than 1
million books sold in 2006.
Upon its launch into the book trade in 2004, Kumon Publishing was an immediate
success, quickly becoming the best-selling Pre-K and Kindergarten workbook
line at Barnes & Noble stores nationwide. The emerging publishing company has
also enjoyed strong sales at Indigo/Chapters in Canada, AWBC, Borders,
independent bookstores and educational stores.
With successful new partnerships in place with other major retailers, Kumon Publishing is expecting to continue its rapid growth in 2007.
Kumon workbooks, which concentrate on the areas of math, reading/writing and
basic motor control skills, are based on the Kumon Method. This educational
philosophy introduces concepts in a step-by-step manner, allowing children
to master each in turn without frustration. The Kumon Method is also used
to teach math and reading skills to 4 million students enrolled in Kumon
Learning Centers in 44 countries around the globe.
The goal of Kumon Publishing’s workbooks is not only to teach kids math and reading,
but also to help them gain confidence in their abilities and become motivated
to learn on their own. Both parents and kids seem to agree that the books are
fun – "My son just loves doing his Kumon Workbooks" says Paula Stephens, homeschooling mother of 4-year-old Riley. "We never have to ask him to start."
With 36 titles aimed at kids 2 to 8 years old, Kumon Publishing offers a complete workbook
program for Pre-K and Kindergarten skills. Current non-workbook products, Kumon
flash cards and crafts books, are also popular high-quality materials. And Kumon
Publishing plans to grow along with its loyal customers by expanding its current
lines and moving into grade school workbooks in the near future.
