Kumon Publishing is proud to announce its innovative new title, My Book of Easy
Telling Time, has won a Distinguished Achievement Award (DAA) from the
Association of Educational Publishers (AEP). The AEP is a national nonprofit
professional organization for educational publishers.
My Book of Easy Telling Time, a Kumon Workbook for ages 4 through 6, was
awarded the 2006 DAA for Specialized Audience Workbooks in the K-5 category.
This marks the fourth time a Kumon workbook has made it to the final rounds of
the competition.
While many publishers teach time as a chapter in larger math workbooks, or
combine time and money together in one workbook, Kumon Publishing’s educational
philosophy is to create workbooks that cover only a single skill set. And since
telling time is a relatively complex and important skill, Kumon Publishing has
published two telling time workbooks, with the first volume covering hours and
half-hours, and the second volume focusing on minutes.
“My son was having trouble learning how to tell time before we got him this
book” says Livingston Vignos, whose son, Tobin, added that the book made
telling time “easy.”
The judges at the AEP lauded the solid structure of the book. They emphasized
that it was a great example of a “Back to the Basics method,” and enjoyed the
heavy, quality paper used in the workbook. According to the guidelines for the
awards, winners were chosen based upon “a product’s efficacy and fulfillment of
its educational mission.”
Kumon Workbooks feature the Kumon Method, a system of learning that breaks
skills down into manageable step-by-step increments, allowing children to
become self-motivated learners. This approach is what makes My Book of Easy
Telling Time the easiest way to introduce a young child to telling time.
